Paediatric Occupational Therapy

Paediatric occupational therapy supports children to develop the skills they need to participate in everyday activities at home, school, and in the community. Therapy focuses on areas such as play, self-care, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and fine and gross motor skills. Using developmentally appropriate and play-based approaches, paediatric occupational therapists work closely with children and families to build confidence, independence, and meaningful participation in daily life.

In school, home, or community based sessions

Paediatric occupational therapy can be delivered across school, home, and community-based settings to support children in the environments where they live, learn, and play. In schools, therapy focuses on participation in classroom routines, learning tasks, and social interactions. Home-based sessions support daily routines, self-care, and family goals, while community-based therapy helps children build confidence and skills for participation in activities such as playgroups, sports, and outings. Working within natural environments allows therapy to be practical, meaningful, and directly relevant to the child’s everyday life.

Functional Capacity Assessments

Functional Capacity Assessments for the NDIS provide a comprehensive overview of a person’s ability to participate in everyday activities across self-care, mobility, communication, and social participation. These assessments identify strengths, support needs, and barriers to independence, and are used to inform NDIS planning, funding decisions, and appropriate supports aligned with individual goals.

4

Home Modifications and Assistive Technology Assessments

Home Modifications and Assistive Technology Assessments support individuals to live safely and independently within their home and community environments. These assessments evaluate a person’s functional abilities, environmental barriers, and support needs to recommend practical modifications or equipment that enhance safety, accessibility, and participation in daily activities. Recommendations are tailored to the individual and aligned with relevant funding guidelines to support long-term independence and quality of life

5

Supported Independent Living Assessments

Supported Independent Living (SIL) Assessments evaluate an individual’s functional capacity, support needs, and daily living skills to determine the level and type of assistance required to live as independently as possible. These assessments consider personal care, routines, safety, and community participation, and are used to inform appropriate support arrangements that promote autonomy, wellbeing, and meaningful daily living.
